Stop incoming spam with Greylisting in WHM

Greylisting is a service provided by cPanel/WHM to stop receiving spam and unwanted incoming mails. The mail server will temporarily reject all mails from any sender (other than from the trusted mail servers) in the first attempt.

Legitimate transmitter mail host would retry giving the mail after a quick wait which is examined by the getting mail host where Greylisting is enabled and just legit mails are passed away through after analyzing triplets.A triplet includes the internet protocol address, the sender’s target, plus the recipient’s target. By checking each one of these three components, Greylisting device filters spam email messages and permits just genuine email messages to feed.

To enable Greylisting

  • Go to WHM >> e-mail >> Greylisting

  • Just click the ‘On/Off’ toggle and then click ‘Save’.

Configuration Settings

Once you permit Greylisting, ‘Configuration Settings’ tab will show up. Enter desired values for every industries and then click ‘Save’.

Fields in setup settings are:

  1. Initial Deferral Period – how many moments when Greylisting defers the gotten e-mail from an triplet that is unknown first email from an unknown IP address is received by the server.
  2. Resend Acceptance Period – The number of minutes during which Greylisting accepts an email resent by the sender since reception of first mail from an IP that is unknown.
  3. Record termination Time – how many moments before Greylisting deletes the triplet record for the mail that is sent treats a resent email as though it comes from a new, unknown triplet since reception the first email from an unknown IP address.
  4. Bypass Greylisting for Hosts with Valid SPF Records – If you tick this check box,

Trusted Hosts

You can add the IP addresses of sender mail server in this tab to not defer the incoming mails from this IPs.

To add the IPs, enter the IP just inside industry New Trusted Hosts and select Add key.

To delete the IPs, simply click regarding ‘Delete’ key regarding right for the IP that is required the list of trusted hosts.

Common Mail Providers

In this tab, you can see a list of common mail providers like Outlook, Hotmail etc. You can select the mail providers from which the mails are wanted by you to feed. So that the mails from all of these providers won’t be deferred.

Reports

This tab shows all of the reports regarding Greylisting.
